Millions of Gig Economy Workers to Gain Holiday and Sick Pay Rights
It has been announced today that the UK government has promised to overhaul employment rights for ‘Gig Economy’ workers.
The changes will mean that those individuals who carry out work for companies such as Deliveroo and UberEats will be afforded greater rights to be able to claim holiday and sick pay.
The recommendations for the changes were made in the Taylor Review which was published in 2017 and will affect millions of workers.
The government is going beyond the recommendations in the Taylor Review by not only enforcing holiday and sick pay entitlements, but also allowing flexible workers the right to demand more stable contracts.
In addition the government has asked the Low Pay Commission to consider whether workers who are engaged on zero-hour contracts should be given a higher minimum wage.
